About Dunelm Cottage - A Peak District Mill Cottage

Dunelm Cottage is a luxury three-bedroom holiday rental in the village of Edale, Derbyshire, at the heart of the Peak District National Park. The cottage sleeps six across one king-size and two double bedrooms, each with mountain views, and is rated 5.0 from around fifty guest reviews.

A cottage with history

Edale grew around Edale Mill, a water-powered cotton mill built in the early nineteenth century that played a major role during the Industrial Revolution. Dunelm Cottage is one of the nearby mill cottages built for the mill workers. Like its neighbours it was designed "back-to-front", with its front facing away from the mill owner's house to keep daily worker life out of view. Today the same sturdy stone walls frame a modern, beautifully styled interior with furnishings and artwork chosen with care.

The cottage today

Inside you'll find a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, induction hob, oven and microwave; a cosy living room with panoramic views of Mam Tor; a spacious bathroom with roll-top bath and monsoon shower; a log-burning stove; and a boot room stocked with books, maps and walking route ideas. Outside, the secluded garden has a fire pit, chiminea and seating for six beside the River Doe, and an electric vehicle charger keeps eco-conscious travellers on the road. Well-behaved pets are welcome.

Your host

The cottage is hosted by Ben, an Edale local who responds quickly to guest questions before and during every stay. Guests regularly mention the thoughtful touches: the welcome pack, postcards, fresh bread and the home-made tea towel designed by Ben's daughter. Walking from the door you can reach the Pennine Way, Mam Tor, Winnats Pass, Ringing Roger and the Kinder Scout plateau, with the village pub and café a short stroll away.
